Evanthia B. of Manchester, MA was selected for an Essex County Youth Foundation Leadership Scholarship. She is receiving the Charles Blanchard Memorial Scholarship. Evanthia is a graduate of Manchester Essex Regional High School. She plans to study special education and psychology with a goal of pursuing a career as a Special Education Teacher. This is a career choice that Evanthia has desired since age 7 when she associated with a disabled classmate. She has volunteered in a local classroom for children with disabilities and has been learning American Sign Language for the past 2 years. She has served as treasurer of her student body. Evanthia participated on her high school gymnastics center. Evanthia won her school's Distinguished Service Award last year and is described as someone who far exceeded the required number of community service hours.
